Welcome to Holistic Mental Health
Get Well Soon
If you are tired of quick assessments and even quicker diagnoses and would like to feel fully heard and validated before being categorized, we may be a good fit. My ideal client is ready to try a more nontraditional mental health approach that starts with understanding the connection between mental, physical, and spiritual health. We will work together to uncover root causes, from childhood trauma to the grief of loss that invariably accompanies age. Instead of simply numbing the pain, we will do real work to understand, confront, and bring justice to old wounds and new conflicts, moving toward a deeper and more lasting wellness.
About Us
Grief
Set stages aside and come to understand that it’s okay not to be okay with loss. As a former Hospice Bereavement Coordinator with additional training from David Kessler (grief.com), I’ll work on helping your brain organize and give voice to the pain and chaos using psychoeducation and expressive arts therapy. My clients consistently marvel at how much lighter the weight is after getting help.
Depression and Anxiety
It’s important to distinguish between situational depression, which is a common and normal reaction to stressful situations or losses, and clinical depression, which is an internal reality not related to external situations. It is best to work through situational depression with help from talk therapy. Research shows that remedies such as talk therapy, exercise, meditation, and supplements have proven just as effective without the often life-altering side effects of medication.*
Relationships
Learning how to navigate the often-difficult web of multiple conflicts and personalities can be like finding your way through a maze. Therapy can help you find a clear path out by learning what’s normal and what’s not and providing coping tools and communication skills to manage it all.
*mindfulness-based cognitive therapy appears as effective as other treatments (like medication) in preventing relapse for individuals with recurrent depression, according to a 2016 analysis in JAMA Psychiatry[4]. Meanwhile, CBT is more effective and can have longer-lasting effects than medication after treatment stops for those living with social anxiety, according to a 2014 study in Lancet Psychiatry[5].
Physical activity is 1.5 times more effective at reducing mild-to-moderate symptoms of depression, psychological stress, and anxiety than medication or cognitive behavior therapy: https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/2023/07/11/bjsports-2022-106195
